Get to know: Richard Elis (Chris)

What role do you play in 2023?I play Chris Vaughan in 2023 - he’s a scientist working in the field of genomic sequencing. How long have you been working in theatre, and how did you get started?

I have been working in theatre for about 25 years - I started with school shows, then the National Youth Theatre of Wales, on to Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and then have been lucky enough to have a career which has been really varied with TV, film and also lots of theatre across Britain.

What projects have you recently worked on?

I have recently been involved in a few feature films - Alright Now and Wild Honey Pie! They are currently both having a release in the US with a UK release hopefully over the next few months. I have also done a bit of Coronation Street, some European commercials and a sit-com called Tourist Trap for the BBC.

Tell us about your character in 2023 - what's he like?

Chris is a scientist - so he has elements of that about him in the way he likes structure and completion of tasks in a methodical way. His husband John in the play is an artist - so there is an interesting mixture of worlds colliding and when they are put under stress we see the different ways they deal with the same situation.

What most excites you about performing in 2023?

There is talk of a Dr Who lunchbox which I am very interested in seeing! Also learning some BSL has been a challenge which has really stretched me and fingers crossed will be a successful part of the show!
