2023

In October, 2018, we staged our first production - 2023 - at Chapter Arts, Cardiff.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 "[a] stunning new play. I propose that it is in the running for best Welsh new play of 2018" - Get the Chance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "a morality tale for the Black Mirror generation" - Buzz magazine

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "one of the most interesting pieces of theatre I'd seen in a long time" - Quench

2023 tells the story of Mary, born from donated sperm, who seeks out her donor parent Chris, knocking his world (and marriage to John) asunder. It was developed with the help of academics and researchers in the fields of gamete donation and D/deafness and we captioned every performance.

It starred Stephanie Back as Mary, Tom Blumberg as John and Richard Elis as Chris. We also held two post-show discussions (below). The piece was funded by Arts Council Wales and the Unity Theatre Trust and was generously supported by Chapter.

We were also invited to perform an extract of 2023 as part of Fertility Fest 2019 at the Barbican where Lisa Parry also sat on a panel discussing the IVF Generation.

A post-show discussion at Chapter about the play and its themes with Dr Branwen Davies, Stephanie Back, Richard Elis, Lisa Parry, Zoë Waterman and Tom Blumberg. BSL interpretation from Rachel Jones and Liz May.

A post-show discussion at Chapter about the science and ethics evident in the play with Dr Lyndon Miles, Lisa Parry, Prof Jacky Boivin and Michael Carklin. BSL interpretation from Liz May.
